Raspberry Pi, An ARM GNU/Linux Box

Raspberry PiWe are following with huge excitement the progress of Raspberry Pi, An ARM GNU/Linux box for $25.

The Raspberry Pi is a credit-card sized computer that plugs into your TV and a keyboard. It's a capable little PC which can be used for many of the things that your desktop PC does, like spreadsheets, word-processing and games.

They offer 2 versions: Model A ($25) that has 128Mb of RAM, one USB port and no Ethernet (network connection) and Model B ($35) has 256Mb RAM, 2 USB port and an Ethernet port.

LED Lamps - The GREEN choice

LED LampAn LED lamp is a solid-state lamp that uses light-emitting diodes (LEDs) as the source of light. In recent years, as diode technology has improved, high power light-emitting diodes with higher lumen output are making it possible to replace other lamps with LED lamps. One high power LED chip used in some commercial LED lights can emit 7,527 lumens while using only 100 watts versus a conventional 100W light bulb that emits about 1,700 lumens.

LED lamps offer long service life and high energy efficiency. Compared to fluorescent bulbs, advantages claimed for LED light bulbs are that they contain no mercury (unlike a Compact fluorescent lamp or CFL), that they turn on instantly, and that lifetime is unaffected by cycling on and off, so that they are well suited for light fixtures where bulbs are often turned on and off. The Preferred CISIUM Microcontroller

The Preferred CISIUM MicrocontrollerWe did a very extensive market study to decide which microcontroller would be the best for the CISIUM embedded strategy. There are hundreds of manufacturer as well as much architecture. Of course all of them have their pros and cons.

The decision was not easy; we spend many months in order to select the best processor that fits with our necessities. After the selection we had some doubts if we did the best choice, because we were very focused in the low cost, bad after some months we could confirm that not only was the cheapest 32 bits processor in the market for embedded and multimedia applications, also we had available one of the most powerful processor in the market.

For our selection, these were the key points we considered:

The Best USB Microcontroller

LPC1340In CISIUM, always we want the option that better feet with our customer requirements. In this occasion we have to identify the best USB microcontroller for a small electronic embedded system. Even though we are specialized in ARM processor, always we are checking other alternatives, in order to give the best electrical and electronic services. The comparison has been done between the cheapest USB ARM processor; it is done by NXP implemented in the LPC13 family versus the manufacturer who has the biggest sales of 8 bit microcontroller in the market, Microchip, a good friend of CISIUM.

In the next table we can identify the technical specification of the smallest microcontroller with USB from NXP (ARM core) and Microchip (8 bits):
